Five Ways You Could Restore Your Smile

February 19, 2017

A great smile starts with how you feel about yourself and about your teeth.

If you have self-confidence, you are more likely to smile around other people. If you are ashamed or embarrassed by your teeth, however, you may force yourself to hide your smile.

That’s not good for you or for the people who care about you. Your smile could lift someone else’s spirits or let people see how friendly you are.

Our team at Northalsted Dental Spa knows that a chipped or broken tooth or missing teeth can affect how willing you are to share that smile. It’s why we offer restorative dentistry at our Chicago dentist office.

If you want your smile to feel whole again, make plans to visit with Dr. Michael Griffin. He can examine your teeth and let you know which of our restorative services could help you.

Below you will find descriptions of four ways we could bring back your smile. Read over them, then call 773-245-2779 or contact us online to discuss which one could be right for you.

Dental Fillings/Dental Bonding

For a long time, metal fillings were the standard for repairing cavities and tooth decay. These did restore the function of your teeth, but the gold or amalgam fillings also could be a distraction from your smile.

Today, we can use a composite resin that effectively repairs parts of your teeth that have been damaged. The difference is that this resin can be shaded to match the color of your natural teeth.

You can fill your cavities as well as repair chips and cracks in a way that conceals your problem so your smile looks as natural as can be.

Dental Veneers

As effective as dental fillings and bonding can be, there is a drawback. The composite resin will wear down with time, and it will need to be replaced occasionally.

Or you could get a more permanent solution. Dental veneers can last for decades with proper care. Veneers are a thin shell that is bonded to the front of your teeth. The veneers are durable and strong, so you can continue to bite and chew just like you do with your natural teeth.

Veneers can be used to repair chipped, cracked, and worn-down teeth. You also may be interested in veneers if you have gaps between your teeth, crooked teeth, crowded teeth, or teeth that are misshapen in some way.

And if you come to Northalsted Dental Spa, you could get your veneers sooner than at many other places. With our CEREC milling machine, we can design and create your veneers in our office rather than ordering them from a lab.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are a great option when you have a tooth that has suffered serious damage.

Crowns can be used to repair large cavities, broken teeth, and deep cracks. By removing the parts of your teeth that are weak or damaged, we form an abutment to support your dental crown.

And we can make your crown with our CEREC machine as well, which means you can get your crown in a single visit rather than in a few weeks.

A dental crown also can be used to replace a missing tooth. When placed on a dental implant (a titanium cylinder that replaces the root of your missing tooth), you can have a complete and natural-looking smile.

Dental Bridges

If you are missing one or more teeth, a dental bridge is an effective way to bring back your smile as well as your ability to eat the foods that your love.

A traditional bridge is bonded to two healthy teeth that have been reshaped into abutments. These teeth help to anchor the bridge in place so it can span the gap in your smile.

You also have the option of getting an implant-supported dental bridge. By placing one or more implants in your jaw, you have a secure and stable way to support your bridge.

Dentures have been used for centuries to replace entire arches of teeth. Today’s dentures are better than they have ever been.

The materials are lifelike and durable, and again thanks to dental implants, your dentures can be held securely in place. In fact, implant-supported dentures are strong enough that patients can eat anything they like without worrying about their “teeth” getting pushed out of position.
