Invest In Your Smile With A Dental Implant

August 22, 2017

Missing a tooth is not only detrimental to your self-confidence but your oral health as well. No matter whether you lost your tooth, or teeth, because of tooth decay, an injury, or more, there may be a solution right for you: dental implants.

Dental implants are just one of the many ways Dr. Michael Griffin with Northalsted Dental Spa is improving the lives of patients in Chicago, IL each and every day. With the help of Dr. Griffin and his experienced staff, you can make an investment in your dental health that will have you smiling for a long time.

But how do you know if a dental implant is right for you?

What Is A Dental Implant?

“OK, so a dental implant can help give me the smile I want, but what exactly is it?”

A dental implant is an effective way to replace teeth that you have lost. Think of a dental implant as a replacement for your tooth root. When you lose a tooth, your other teeth may move because the bone that used to hold your lost tooth in place has begun to deteriorate. This effect can cause a long list of uncomfortable symptoms, including the loss of more teeth.

Dental implants can prevent that from happening by securing the rest of your teeth in place.

Dental implants can replace multiple lost or damaged teeth, too. These dental implant systems, called All on 4 and All on 6, are used to permanently attach a full-mouth bridge or a set of replacement teeth as opposed to just one crown. They’re great for restoring your smile and great options for candidates who want a full, permanent, and natural-looking set of teeth.

They are a long-term option for patients who want a full smile and the advantages that come with having a full set of teeth.

Benefits Of Dental Implants

There are several benefits to getting dental implants including:

  • Improved speech
  • More self-confidence
  • Easier eating
  • Improved comfort
  • Better oral health
  • Durability and dependability

Dental Implant Procedure: What To Expect

To be eligible for dental implants, you have to have healthy gums and enough bone to hold the implant in place. The first step in the process of getting a dental implant is a consultation with our dentist. During your visit, Dr. Griffin can determine if you’re a good candidate for dental implants.

If you are a candidate, our staff at Northalsted Dental Spa will come up with a treatment plan customized to your needs. Fortunately, we’re qualified and prepared to place your implant right in the office, which means you don’t have to go anywhere else for the procedure.

The next step is to place the implant (a small titanium post) into the bone where your lost tooth used to be. As the area heals, your bone will grow around the post, securing it in your jaw. This healing process can take several months and you will likely be instructed to stick to soft or liquid foods to allow the area to heal properly.

When the implant has bonded to your bone, a connector post is attached. These connector posts can support bridges, crowns, or dentures.

At Northalsted Dental Spa, we use a CEREC machine that allows us to make crowns right here in our office, making things more convenient for you.

Your dental implants can last a lifetime if you care for them properly and keep up with regular checkups with your dentist.
